Search Engine Optimization Companies are a Waste of Money

Traditional advertising is a circular concept. A business spends money with another business to create advertising for the first business to get new customers and new sales so the first company can spend more with the second company to get more customers and sales. Still a viable concept, but antiquated. Now there's Search Engine Optimization (SEO) companies calling to say they can increase your website page ranking with sites such as Google (for a fee). Our site usually shows up first, or on the first page, on Google searches and I received an actual email from one these companies stating, "You're ranking is #1 on Google search, we can make it better." I'm not sure how it could be better than #1? Anyway, these companies are a waste of time and money, here's the key to increase your value to Google... REVIEWS. Get as many of your friends, family members, customers, etc., to review your business. Google loves reviews. The more reviews you have, the higher your ranking will be. It works like a charm. All that these SEO companies do are get the the reviews for you and place them on the different search engines, usually for a $2K to $5k fee. Save your money and do it yourself. Make sure you have Google Places account properly set up, put in as many reviews, keywords, photos, and videos on it as you can, and watch your ranking skyrocket.

Flooring, Lights, and Counter Tops on the Web

It's been said, "Too many cooks, spoil the stew." The same goes for home products retailers. On line selling has its places, but flooring, lights, and counter tops aren't among them. I can't imagine buying something simply by looking at a picture on the web. Sure, the e-retailer may send a swatch out, but is that swatch from the current production run? Can you be sure of what you're getting? Can you really tell what that finish is on the chandelier in the photo?

Spring is in the Air

Although there's been a stretch of bad weather lately, I always think Spring is the best time of year. Not to hot or cold, everything's turning green, and things become anew. This is the time I also spend rethinking how I can better service my customers. I'm a firm believer that you can always build a better mousetrap.
