Designers in 2010 are opting for more cleaner, clearer, and more optimistic colors this year due to the drab economy, according to Kaye Gosline of Floor Focus magazine.
Grey, with a purple base, is becoming the new "it" color. Greens remain as a supporting color with a blue base, while blue in a denim shade is also gaining ground. Reds are moving cleaner and brighter, due to Latin American influences with supporting colors of orange and copper. Asian inspired golds are the yellow of choice among designers today. The important thing to remember is color is the only thing that can elevate a basic project into a "pop" project. Like anything else, keep the majority fairly neutral and add splashes of color to enhance it. Clean and simple, but with a little pizazz.
It's been said, "Too many cooks, spoil the stew." The same goes for home products retailers. On line selling has its places, but flooring, lights, and counter tops aren't among them. I can't imagine buying something simply by looking at a picture on the web. Sure, the e-retailer may send a swatch out, but is that swatch from the current production run? Can you be sure of what you're getting? Can you really tell what that finish is on the chandelier in the photo?
