We just brought in a new mosaic glass tile from Spain. It's a fantastic line and even has one color that glows in the dark. This is great for kid's bathrooms as a nite-lite.
One of our more poplular options is ceramic tile that looks like hardwood. This tile will range in size from 3" to 5" wide and from 13" to 24" in length. It's a great product, but it also has a downside. Due to the tile being fired at high temp's, the body of the retangle will cup ever-so-slightly. This can happen on the ends, or sides. This cupping makes installation very tricky since we want the tile to lay as flat as possible. We must use a very thick mortar and larger notched trowel size so we can apply as much mortar on the floor as posibble to compensate for the cupping of the tile. Even then, there is always some areas that can't be helped. In short, tile is a kiln-fired product and will never be exactly square, or exactly flat. An installer can take steps to eleviate problem areas, but sometimes it is just what it is, pottery that goes on the floor.
It's been said, "Too many cooks, spoil the stew." The same goes for home products retailers. On line selling has its places, but flooring, lights, and counter tops aren't among them. I can't imagine buying something simply by looking at a picture on the web. Sure, the e-retailer may send a swatch out, but is that swatch from the current production run? Can you be sure of what you're getting? Can you really tell what that finish is on the chandelier in the photo?
