Don't Be Fooled By Lumber Liquidators

I received a flyer in the mail at my home from Lumber Liquidators today stating $1.99 a square foot for professional installation on laminate and cork and $2.50 a square foot on solid and engineered wood with a free in home estimate. It goes on to say how you'll be suprised how low their installation cost is. Let me explain a few details. We offer the same installations for $.50 less a square foot, that could be a savings of several hundred dollars depending on the job size. They use a workroom to draw contractors from and never see them or the work they do. We handle your job professionally from start to finish. Our project managers meet with you, measure, and schedule the job with our in house contractors, and then visit the site to ensure quality. You can't get that from Lumber Liquidators. Also, in fine print, the estimate actually costs you $25, but is refunded if you buy from them. We will never charge for an estimate regardless of whether you buy from us or not. Another lesson to not believe the hype of a national chain.

Designers in 2010 are opting for more cleaner, clearer, and more optimistic colors this year due to the drab economy, according to Kaye Gosline of Floor Focus magazine.

January Begins Slow

Mosaic Glass Tile and Cupped Tile

We just brought in a new mosaic glass tile from Spain. It's a fantastic line and even has one color that glows in the dark. This is great for kid's bathrooms as a nite-lite.

Bad Drywall

Have you heard about all the bad drywall being sold these days. The drywall is emitting sulphur gases and is eroding pipes, electical cords, and causing health issues. Drywall is a gypsum based product and gypsum is a mineral. Is the gypsum being mined contaminated? Or could it be that, to lessen manuafacturing costs, manufacturers are adding some kind of cheap "filler" to the product? What ever the cause, it diffinitely needs to be addressed.

Political Correctness and Social Acceptance

I was looking at a magazine article showing a guy getting ready to use a drill and I couldn't help notice that the guy didn't have on safety glasses. I caught myself thinking that some ad agency screwed up. How could they let this happen? It's funny how things get embedded into our normal perception of right and wrong these days. Just like that Sesame Street is 40 years old and I heard that The Grouch used to smoke a pipe on the show. I don't remember that, but people would go crazy today if that happened.
