Thanks To Our Clients

We know people have choices when it comes to home improvements. That's why, from time to time, we take a moment to thank a few special ones like Chris Blakeman, Shelton's Grocery, Dr. Jennings, Jenny Lind Baptist Church, and Larry Bedell. Our clients are great.

Excellence In Construction Award for 2007

This past weekend we attended the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) state convention in Rogers, where we graciously accepted the 2007 Excellence in Construction award for our interior finish work on the 188th Fighter Wing Vehicle Maintenance Complex Building. The marble "eagle" as it's called, is a symbol of quality work. We also won last year for our work on the Mt. Magazine State Park cabins. We want to thank the ABC staff for all its hard work on putting the convention together. It was great fun.

St. Louis Learning Exchange

My trip to St. Louis was a good learning experience. I met with Andy Touchette, the owner of Home Source in Chesterfield, which is just outside St. Louis. Andy’s store is also in the Floor To Ceiling group like us. Andy gave me a lot of insight into his store operations with some useful tips on store display arrangements and office operations. We'll implement these new ideas in the near future.

Architect Meetings Go Well

We would like to thank Sarah Stillman and Marianne Nicodemus with Architecture Plus, Travis Bartlett with MAHG Architects, and Shannon Reith with Guest Reddick Architects for meeting with us on Thursday to discuss our new commercial carpet line from Kraus Carpet. Kraus is Canadian manufacturer, and has an extensive line of quality “green” carpet marketed toward educational and health care facilities.

Travel and Learning Go Together

My flight to Monterrey was cancelled due to bad weather yesterday. I was going to visit a travertine stone manufacturing plant there. The trip will be rescheduled in the next month or two. I will be going to St. Louis next week for a Floor To Ceiling meeting. Justin will be going to Minneapolis in September for cabinet design software training. We try to take advantage of any opportunity to learn, whether here, or abroad. The more we know, the better we can serve our clients.

Lights, Cabinets, Action!

Our new lights in blown glass are a hit. We’re looking at some Italian lines that are spectacular. We’re looking at the different cabinet lines now that we plan to have ready sometime in the fourth quarter. They’re good-looking cabinets, with clean lines and loads of options... should be ready for full launch at the Fort Smith Home Show in February 2008. Stay tuned for more action.

Color Scheme: Use Pick-See-LMD Method

Finding it difficult to select a color scheme for a room? Here's an easy way to help, use the Pick-See-LMD method.

Happy 4th of July

The year is half over. Where has it gone? The last few weeks have been busy for us. We would like to thank Craig and Tifani DeMaria for helping us design thier beautiful new home. The hardwood and paver floor tiles really came together to give the house that "old world" look. We've brought in some new hand blown glass pendent lighting that really catches the eye. We have several projects in the works that will be finishing up shortly that really add to our portfolio. Stay tuned...

After the Show

We had a blast at Neo-Con. Floor after floor of non-stop interior options. This year's designs are definitely sleek, linear, and modern. A lot of light green and orange seems to be the dominate color scheme at the show as highlighted by Haworth who had the best overall display furniture area. Blue Ridge Commercial Carpet had the best carpet show, and Villi had the best tile booth. We will use all of the ideas and products gathered there to better serve our clients here.

Vital Stats

The US economy is predicted to grow at a higher rate than initially projected in both 2010 and 2011, according to the National Association for Business Economics.

Home Sales Up in Crawford and Sebastian Counties

Home sales in Crawford and Sebastian counties during May were up despite concerns of a falloff resulting from expiration of federal tax credits for certain homebuyers.

Crawford County saw 63 new and existing homes sold in May, up 7% compared to May 2009, while Sebastian County saw a 29% increase with 143 homes sold in May. The figures are from the King Realty Group’s May report prepared by Realtor Ernie Schimmelman.

Pasted from The City Wire.

Arizona and British Petroleum

I can't seem to wrap my head around the idea of thousands of people marching in the streets to protest an illegal immigrant law enacted by Arizona when thousands upon thousands of gallons of crude oil are spilling in the Gulf of Mexico, destroying the aqua-eco system and putting a stop to people's livelihoods. Why is no one protesting this?

Shaw, Mohawk, and Beaulieu Carpet Price Increase

Shaw, Mohawk, and Beaulieu announced a carpet price increase of 5 to 7 percent this month. This will affect all orders shipped from these manufacturers after May 24th.

On a brighter note, housing construction in March rose to its highest level in 16 months, spurred by multi-family construction. Retail sales also rose for the third straight month, helped in part by the increase in sales of building materials. It's amazing how all things work in tandem. More construction means a better economy.

Armstrong Price Increase

We've just been informed of a price increase announcement by Armstrong World Floors. This will be a six to eight percent increase effective with shipments made on or after June 1, 2010.

Orders accepted prior to June 1 will be protected at the current price level for 30 days beyond the effective date.

EPA vs. FDA Water

I just learned that tap water is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and that bottled water is considered a food product, so it's monitored by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Even though both are "water", they're controlled by two different government organizations. Both agencys have seperate rules for reporting contamination and what's considered contamination. FYI, the FDA's rules on what's considered contamination are more flexible than the EPA's rules...

Color of the Year: Turquoise

At Home Arkansas reports that Pantone, the world's authority on color, has chosen turquoise as the color of the year in 2010. For homes, Pantone suggests painting it with neautrals to add excitement, with red and pink as complement, or with dark blue for a classic maritime look. They also suggest to bodly mix it with yellow and green for a trendsetting decor.

Southwest Airlines

Been doing some reading on Southwest Airlines and what makes them tick. After pouring over research, I've summarized that the four main points to their success are:

  1. Keep it quick and easy.
  2. Keep it simple with minimal frills.
  3. Exploit smaller, overlooked markets.
  4. Keep it to one business category.

These points in their business model push them toward one goal, that lower costs equates to more customers.

We are currently shifting our business model using the above points. Look for new things to come.
